Wasted Time
By Sarah Hughes
It all started ‘bout 2 years ago when I packed my bags and I slammed the door
On the life that I’d lived for so long
I said goodbye, now it’s gone
Got in the car and I turned the key
Wasn’t looking at them, but they were looking at me
So I drove into the setting sun, feelin’ like an outlaw on the run
Approaching my destination, realizing the time I’d wasted
Getting wasted and wasting time
You look for trouble and trouble you’ll find
I’m looking for a new beginning, preferably one with minimal sinning
Or maybe one with a whole lot more
Don’t know what I’m looking for…what I’m looking for
It’s a different scene, a different dream
You walk down the strip, hear the guitar scream
See the lights that shine so brightly in my eyes
Pick up the pace or turn it down real slow
I’m peaking through the doors and looking out the windows
Trying to get a glimpse of the other side
Some of the people walk with their heads held high
Some look like they’re gonna lay down and die
Me I’m walking right there in between
But sticking to the middle no it’s not too bad, not too happy, not to sad
Working my way through the ship of fools
Speaking my mind, breaking all the rules…breaking all the rules
Well I’m breaking the rules to set my limitations
Breaking the rules just to test your patience
How far will you let me go
Before you close the curtain on my show
